How to Make Baileys Chocolate Mousse Trifle
Step 1: Prepare the Chocolate Mousse
- Melt the dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl over a saucepan of simmering water. Let it cool slightly.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar until pale. Gradually mix in the melted chocolate.
- Beat 1 cup of heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gently fold it into the chocolate mixture. Stir in the Baileys. Chill for at least 1 hour.
Step 2: Make the Baileys Custard
- Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium heat until steaming.
- In a bowl, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks until smooth. Gradually add the hot milk, whisking constantly.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring, until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in Baileys and vanilla. Cool completely.
Step 3: Whip the Cream
- In a chilled bowl, beat the remaining heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
Step 4: Assemble the Trifle
- In a trifle dish or individual glasses, layer the chocolate cake cubes, Baileys custard, chocolate mousse, and whipped cream.
