These Baked Chocolate Chip Cake Donuts are the perfect easy-to-make, no-fry treat that brings the cozy flavors of a bakery-style donut right to your kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Donuts:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional, for extra flavor)
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup mini chocolate chips

For the Chocolate Glaze (Optional but Recommended!):

  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat & Prepare the Donut Pan

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Lightly grease a donut pan with non-stick spray or butter.

Step 2: Make the Batter

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  4. Fold in the mini chocolate chips, making sure they are evenly distributed.

Step 3: Fill & Bake the Donuts

  1. Spoon or pipe the batter into the donut pan, filling each cavity about ¾ full.
  2. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into a donut comes out clean.
  3. Let the donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 4: Make the Chocolate Glaze (Optional but So Good!)

  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips and heavy cream in 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
  2. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Dip the cooled donuts into the glaze or drizzle it over the top. Let set before serving.
