Description

This Berry Croissant Bake is a decadent breakfast or brunch dish that feels luxurious yet is incredibly simple to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Dish:

  • 6 croissants, slightly stale or day-old, torn into pieces
  • 2 cups mixed fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract (optional)

Topping (Optional):

  • Powdered sugar, for dusting
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, for serving

Instructions

1. Preheat and Prep

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Assemble the Bake

  • Layer the torn croissant pieces in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the berries evenly over the top.

3. Make the Custard

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using) until well combined.

4. Pour and Soak

  • Pour the custard mixture evenly over the croissants and berries, pressing down gently with a spatula to ensure the croissants soak up the custard. Let sit for 10-15 minutes to absorb.

5. Bake

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.

6. Serve

  • Let cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar and serve with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
