- 1 lb (450 g) Italian sausage (mild or spicy), casings removed
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes, drained
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Cheese Topping:
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Sausage Mixture
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned and fully cooked, breaking it into crumbles. Remove the sausage and set aside.
- In the same skillet, sauté the onion until softened, about 3–4 minutes. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
Step 2: Build the Sauce
- Stir in the diced tomatoes, marinara sauce, heavy cream, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes. Let it simmer for 5 minutes. Return the sausage to the skillet and mix well.
Step 3: Assemble the Bake
- Combine the cooked fettuccine with the sausage mixture, tossing until evenly coated. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Sprinkle the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses evenly over the top.
Step 4: Bake and Serve
- Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
