For the Funnel Cake Batter
- 2 large eggs
- 1 ½ cups milk
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
For Frying
- 3 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
For Serving
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- Optional: Chocolate sauce, caramel, or fruit preserves for dipping
Instructions
Prepare the Batter
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, whisking until smooth and lump-free.
2. Heat the Oil
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat to 375°F (190°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.
3. Fry the Funnel Cake Sticks
- Transfer the batter to a squeeze bottle or piping bag with a medium tip. Pipe 4–5-inch sticks directly into the hot oil. Fry 3–4 sticks at a time to avoid overcrowding.
- Cook for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
4. Dust and Serve
- Generously dust the funnel cake sticks with powdered sugar while still warm. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauces.
