Description
There’s something magical about making your own blackberry jam. The moment the blackberries hit the pot and start to simmer into a thick, glossy spread, your kitchen fills with the most irresistible aroma.
Ingredients
- 4 cups fresh blackberries (or frozen, thawed)
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
Instructions
Rinse the blackberries thoroughly and remove any stems. If you prefer a seedless jam, press them through a fine-mesh sieve to extract just the juice and pulp.
In a medium saucepan, combine blackberries, sugar, and lemon juice. Stir and let sit for 5-10 minutes to allow the sugar to start drawing out the juices.
Place the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Stir occasionally, mashing the berries slightly to release their juices. Let it simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring frequently, until thickened.
To test if the jam is ready, place a small spoonful on a cold plate and run your finger through it. If it holds its shape and doesn’t run, it’s done!
Pour the hot jam into sterilized jars and let it cool to room temperature before sealing. Store in the fridge for up to 3 weeks or process in a water bath for longer shelf life.
