Description
Let’s talk about pure nostalgia—those crispy, golden, cinnamon-sugar-coated Elephant Ears that you can’t resist at the fair.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- ¾ cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing, optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Make the Dough
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 2-3 minutes on a floured surface until smooth. Let it rest for 5 minutes.
Step 2: Roll and Shape
- Divide the dough into 6-8 equal pieces.
- Roll each piece into a thin circle (about ⅛-inch thick)—the thinner, the crispier!
Step 3: Fry Until Golden
- Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- Fry each dough circle one at a time, cooking for 30-45 seconds per side until golden brown.
- Use tongs to remove and drain on paper towels.
Step 4: Coat with Cinnamon Sugar
- While still warm, brush with melted butter (optional) and generously sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
