This Homemade Red Velvet Hot Chocolate is smooth, silky, and has the perfect balance of cocoa and vanilla flavors, with a gorgeous deep red hue that makes it extra special.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Red Velvet Hot Chocolate:

  • 2 cups milk (whole or any preferred type)
  • ½ cup heavy cream (or half-and-half)
  • ½ cup white chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp red food coloring (or natural beet powder for a natural option)
  • ¼ tsp salt

For the Toppings (Optional, but Highly Recommended!):

  • Whipped cream (store-bought or homemade)
  • Chocolate shavings or mini chocolate chips
  • Red velvet cake crumbs (for a bakery-style touch)
  • Cream cheese drizzle (mix cream cheese with powdered sugar & milk)

Instructions

Heat the Milk & Cream:

  • In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the milk and heavy cream, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching.

2. Melt the Chocolate:

  • Add white chocolate chips and cocoa powder, whisking constantly until smooth and melted.

3. Add the Red Velvet Flavor:

  • Stir in sugar, vanilla extract, red food coloring, and salt.
  • Whisk until everything is combined and the color is a deep red velvet hue.

4. Serve & Top It Off:

  • Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or a drizzle of cream cheese glaze.
  • Serve hot and enjoy the creamy, chocolatey, red velvet goodness!
