Tips for the Best Nutella Puff Pastries

✔ Use cold puff pastry – It puffs up better in the oven!
✔ Don’t overfill! – Too much Nutella will leak out while baking.
✔ Seal the edges well – Use a fork to prevent Nutella from escaping.
✔ For extra crispiness – Sprinkle a little sugar on top before baking.
✔ Serve warm – The Nutella will be perfectly melty!

Substitutions and Variations

🔹 Want a fruity twist? – Add a thin slice of strawberry or banana inside!
🔹 No cookie cutter? – Just cut squares or circles instead.
🔹 Need a dairy-free version? – Use vegan puff pastry and dairy-free hazelnut spread.
🔹 Make them savory! – Swap Nutella for brie and fig jam for a gourmet appetizer.

Make a Healthier Version

✅ Use dark chocolate hazelnut spread – Less sugar, more flavor!
✅ Opt for whole wheat puff pastry – If available, it adds fiber.
✅ Skip the powdered sugar – Let the Nutella shine on its own!

Description

These Nutella-Filled Heart Puff Pastries are light, flaky, and filled with smooth, chocolate-hazelnut goodness. Using store-bought puff pastry, this recipe comes together in minutes—no need for complicated pastry techniques!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought, thawed)
  • ¼ cup Nutella (or more, to taste!)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Optional Toppings:

  • Melted chocolate or Nutella drizzle
  • Fresh strawberries or raspberries
  • Crushed hazelnuts for crunch

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat & Prep the Puff Pastry

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry slightly to smooth it out.

Step 2: Cut Out Heart Shapes

  1. Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out an even number of hearts from the puff pastry.
  2. Place half of the hearts onto the prepared baking sheet.

Step 3: Fill with Nutella & Seal

  1. Spoon ½ teaspoon of Nutella into the center of each heart on the baking sheet.
  2. Brush the edges of the hearts with a little beaten egg to help seal.
  3. Place a second heart-shaped pastry on top of each filled heart.
  4. Use a fork to gently press the edges together, sealing the Nutella inside.

Step 4: Egg Wash & Bake

  1. Brush the tops with more egg wash for a golden finish.
  2. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up.

Step 5: Decorate & Serve!

  1. Let pastries cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar.
  2. Optional: Drizzle with melted Nutella or chocolate, and serve with fresh berries!
