Description

This Old-Fashioned Soft Boiled Egg Breakfast is a simple, classic way to start your day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 slices of buttered toast (cut into “soldiers” for dipping)
  • 1 tbsp vinegar (optional, helps prevent eggs from cracking)
  • Butter (optional, for spreading on toast)

Optional Additions:

  • Avocado slices
  • Fresh herbs (like chives or parsley)
  • Hot sauce or sriracha for a spicy kick
  • Smoked salmon or ham for an elegant twist

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Eggs

  1. Bring a medium pot of water to a gentle boil. If you’re worried about the shells cracking, add 1 tbsp vinegar to the water.
  2. Using a spoon, gently lower the eggs into the boiling water to avoid cracking.

Step 2: Boil the Eggs

  1. Boil the eggs for exactly 6 minutes for a perfect soft-boiled egg with a runny yolk and set whites.
  2. For a slightly firmer yolk, boil for 7 minutes.

Step 3: Cool and Peel

  1. Once the timer goes off, immediately transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Let them sit for 1-2 minutes.
  2. Carefully crack the tops of the eggs and peel if desired—or serve them in egg cups and scoop out with a spoon.

Step 4: Serve and Enjoy

  1. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Serve with buttered toast soldiers or your favorite sides like avocado slices or fresh greens.
