Ingredients

For the Fritters:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • ⅔ cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 ½ cups peeled, diced apples (Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Fuji)
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp cinnamon

Instructions

Prepare the Batter:

  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • In another bowl, mix milk, egg, vanilla, and melted butter.
  • Gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined.
  • Stir in the diced apples, making sure they’re evenly distributed.

2. Heat the Oil:

  • In a deep pan or Dutch oven, heat about 2 inches of oil to 350°F (175°C).
  • Test by dropping a small bit of batter—if it sizzles and floats, the oil is ready.

3. Fry the Fritters:

  • Using a spoon or small scoop, drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil.
  • Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.

4. Make the Glaze & Coat:

  • Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon until smooth.
  • While the fritters are still warm, dip or drizzle them with the glaze.
  • Alternatively, toss the fritters in a mix of cinnamon and sugar for a classic finish!
