Description
These Valentine Spritz Cookies are the perfect bite-sized treat to celebrate love.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp almond extract (optional, for that classic spritz flavor)
- 2¼ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- Pink, red, or white sprinkles (for decorating)
- Gel food coloring (optional, for colorful cookies)
Instructions
Step 1: Prep the Dough
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line your baking sheets with parchment paper (or leave them ungreased if your press works better that way).
- In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using) and mix until combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
Step 2: Color & Shape the Cookies
- If you’re using food coloring, divide the dough and add a few drops to each portion, mixing until the color is evenly distributed.
- Load the dough into your spritz cookie press fitted with your favorite Valentine’s shape (hearts are a must!).
- Press the cookies directly onto the baking sheet and decorate with sprinkles before baking.
Step 3: Bake & Cool
- Bake for 6-8 minutes, or until the edges are just starting to turn golden.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
