Instructions
Step 1: Bake the Cake Layers
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
- Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool completely.
Step 2: Prepare the Cookie Dough Filling
- Heat-treat the flour by spreading it on a baking sheet and baking at 350°F (175°C) for 5 minutes. Let it cool completely.
- In a bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Mix in the vanilla, flour, and milk until smooth. Fold in the mini chocolate chips.
Step 3: Make the Frosting
- Beat the butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, alternating with heavy cream, until the frosting is fluffy and smooth. Stir in vanilla extract and salt.
Step 4: Assemble the Cake
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of cookie dough filling on top.
- Repeat with the second layer. Place the third cake layer on top.
- Frost the entire cake with the buttercream frosting. Decorate with extra cookie dough balls and mini chocolate chips if desired.
